Erik caught the racing bug when his father took him to dirt tracks in The Niagara Region when he was 7 years old and the sport has followed him everywhere since.

While doing news, sports and play-by-play hockey on Niagara radio stations CHSC, CKTB and CJRN in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls, “ET” started announcing the action at Merrittville, Ransomville and Cayuga Speedways through the 70’s.

Even during a brief stint in Calgary at CFCN and CHQR Radio, Erik handled track announcing in the Stampede City in the early 80’s.

A short return to Niagara Falls led to a call from CFTR Toronto that led to a sports directorship, a stint doing voices and comedy with Tom Rivers, and  NHL play-by-play hockey on Toronto Maple Leafs mid-week games on CHCH, Global Television and Sports Channel America.

When the CART IndyCar Series came to the streets of Toronto in 1986, ET brought his announcing experience to The Molson Indy from race-one in 1986, through 1993 when his racing experience and passion expanded to the role of anchor and writer for The Raceline Motorsport Television Series on TSN.

He moved down the street to become Sports Director at The MIX 99.9 Toronto, while he continued with public address work at The Molson Indy. He also covered the pits for ESPN International TV at The Molson Indy in 1991.

Then the racing bug turned into a full time gig, as anchor, producer, writer, and affiliate relations for The Raceline Radio Network starting in 1992-93.

Raceline remains as Canada’s only nationally syndicated motorsport magazine radio show.

2009 marks the 17th year on the air for The Raceline Radio Network, that now comprises 21 stations across Canada including major markets: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Halifax.  The show provides year-round coverage of NASCAR Nextel Cup, Nationwide and Canadian Tire Series, Formula One, IndyCar, The NHRA, American LeMans, DIRT, World of Outlaws, Rallying and more. Guests include the biggest names and personalities in motorsport.

Raceline Radio has won numerous international motorsport journalism awards from The American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association and The Eastern Motorsport Press Association.

ET can also be found making on-camera appearances commenting on motorsport stories and issues on CBC, Global, TSN and CTV television.

He has also anchored ChampCar Radio Network broadcasts, and also serves as pit reporter for The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network for Canadian IRL events. He’s also anchored telecasts for DIRT Modifieds, World of Outlaws Late Models and USAC Silver Crown sprint cars on SPEED.

And yes, he’s still the PA announcer at Merrittville Speedway, Canada oldest dirt track, ‘cause “if ya ain’t got dirt in yer beer…. you ain’t been to a race!”
