An international player in the business of combat sports, Showdown Joe still considers it a priority to nurture the local grappling scene that made him who he is today. As such, he often holds a grappling extravaganza in his hometown of Toronto, appropriately called The Toronto Showdown Grappling Open.

One of Showdown Joe's lifelong dreams is to help bring the sport of MMA to his hometown province of Ontario.

He is one of the foremost participants in the movement to sanction and legalize the sport in Ontario, and is part of a large team that is taking major steps to make his dream a reality.
