North Bay Monster Pond Hockey

North Bay Monster Pond Hockey is a non-profit organization that believes everyone should experience the grassroots of our national sport - hockey; a sport where, years ago, children grew up enjoying the cold winters by playing it on outdoor ponds and lakes. With only a stick and skates and whatever could be found for a puck, children would gather on any available ice surface to play. There were no formal structures, rules and equipment that are a part of the sport today.

The purpose of the North Bay Monster Pond Hockey tournament each year is to provide a pond hockey experience for as many children and their families as possible, enjoying the wintery outdoors on Lake Nipissing. This year the focus is to introduce the tradition to as many beginner hockey players as possible. Timbit Day is Sat Feb 11th and ALL Timbit hockey players from across Ontario will play for FREE!

This year’s tournament will be held on February 11th & 12th, 2012, on Lake Nipissing.  It is the largest child/adult tournament in the world and is host to the World Youth Championships, Timbit Day, Sledge Hockey Day, Special Needs Day, and many divisions for adult and youth players. There is a cash prize for the Mens Competitive Division Winners!

For the past five years, this growing event was held on Circle Lake.  The 2012 tournament has been relocated to Lake Nipissing and will be bigger and better. All families are encouraged to participate or come out to watch all the fun.  For more information and registration visit www.monsterpondhockey.ca or email Alicia at monsterpondhockey@hotmail.ca.
