Montreal Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey is resigning as the club's general manager after five seasons at the helm. Gainey will stay on as a consultant to new Habs GM and executive vice-president Pierre Gauthier. The team is currently in sixth place in the East, with a record of 28-26-6 despite a series of crippling long-term injuries to key players.
Preview: San Jose Sharks at Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs host the San Jose Sharks, a team that's 8-1-1 in their last 10 games tonight at the ACC. The Leafs are coming off a 5-0 home win over Ottawa on Saturday. Goaltender Jean-Sebastian Giguere will aim for this third straight shutout against the 2nd ranked offense in the league.
Washington Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin has once again been named the NHL's first star of the week.
It's the third time he's received the honour this season and the second time in four weeks. Toronto's newly acquired goalie, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, was named second star.
